School Overview

Jeppe Education Centre is a subsidiary of Jeppe Adult Education Centre. Jeppe Adult Education centre was established in 1997 to provide adult education and training. However, many of our adult learners yearned for obtaining a Matric certificate to enable them to either go for further studies or gain promotion at work. It then became inevitable for management to immediately expand the programme to include Adult Matric. From 1999 we were inundated with applications to do Matric. Most of these applications came from out of school youth, over-age learners who could not be accommodated in mainstream schooling and from working adults. In 2008, the Gauteng Department of Education granted us a license to run a full time school to cater for the many applications from parents who felt that their children would flourish academically under our auspices

Library Resources

JEC has a fully equipped library center which supports student learning by providing print and electronic media to enhance the curriculum and promote independent interests and address the needs for the learners. Library information skills are integrated into the curriculum and new technologies are integrated into the library/ media centers as they become available. The library will have a number of computer terminals which provides learners access to line sources of data.

A process of acquiring relevant textbooks for all grades 1-12 is in place. The senior management is planning to also raise funds to expand the library space so as to sit 500 learners at ago by 2016.

Achieving the school mission

Jeppe Education Centre will fulfill its mission by: Understanding the educational and training needs of all the people we serve. Responding to these client needs flexibly and imaginatively. Building partnerships to further the school’s mission. Working with and for the business community. Welcoming and inducting all learners to the school. Setting high targets and monitoring them for all aspects of the school’s performance: for example: high pass-rates, attendance, examinations and value for money. Raising the achievements of our learners. Becoming a leader in South Africa in the educational use of informational technology for learners and staff. Supporting the running of the school through the provision of high quality educational services. Recognizing in our tutorial and support systems that the school is often a period of transition for learners and that young people and adults have different needs. Developing a network of links for learners and staff with the outside world, particularly with employers. Ensuring our learners and staff develop the skills to be independent lifelong learners.
