Principal’s Report 2022-23

Deputy Principals, Fellow SMT, Distinguished Parents, Teachers, and everyone at large good morning. I add my words of welcome to those of the Master of ceremonies and all other presenters in welcoming our parents.  I welcome you all. I hope and trust that you enjoy being part of our community for the academic year 2022 for it’s a different year unlike any other.

Thank you very much for choosing to entrust us with your children. I know that it’s not by default that you chose Jeppe Education Centre. I believe every one of you has set sights on one goal which must be achieved by your children the end of the year. Therefore, we must keep sight on the goal: which is academic success in the top performing school in the Province.

I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their contribution towards the 2021 excellent achievement in the NSC G12. Once again last year’s results in NSC Matric reflected the tremendous hard work of learners, staff, and parents. we thank you all for your contribution towards our accolades, you are all contributors in different rights.

The past two years as compounded by the vagaries of the Covid-19 conundrum, changed the landscape of education and all its conventions in not only SA but the world at large. This called for a very dynamic mode of school governance, if academic success was to be realised, we were here, we carefully reorganized our selves and through our agile strategies, we emerged the best performing school in Gauteng for two consecutive years.

About us:  So, let me tell you about us, about what we do, what we believe in and what we value. Above all else, we are about children and young people, their learning, their needs and even their problems, we believe that every learner has the potential to excel in keeping with our motto, which is excelling in the 21st Century.  We are about the whole child because at Jeppe every child is an individual, and as individuals they can all excel academically and otherwise.  We are a school which is child centred, and so all our efforts, our work and our endeavors revolve around the achievement of each learner’s potential, academically, socially, and emotionally. We have the highest expectations for each young person in our care and, as such, it is our responsibility to do our utmost best to ensure that, that is exactly what every one of them realises.

Our staff is committed, caring and professional in all that they do as teachers and as tutors.  We have a pastoral care system which is strong and focused on our children, with strong emphasis on clear and open communication with parents and or care givers. We never lose sight of the fact that our children belong first and foremost to our parents, and so, in practice, we operate an open-door policy of communication whereby if there is an urgent need to talk to a staff member, then so be it. We cannot guarantee to resolve every difficulty, but we will put our utmost into doing so. We are flexible and understanding, promising to work around difficulties which may arise in the lives of our young charges, because as we adults know, life is not all plain sailing and things happen, or as our young people say, stuff happens.  We therefore work very hard to ensure that our school is indeed a safe space and as far as possible, a happy place for each child. This is so important because the happy child is the child who learns and succeeds best.

Performance:   our results saw a shift from 99.3% in 2020to 100% in 2021, bachelors moved from 121 to 135, Thus, we have targeted 100% pass rate for 2022 with our motto “every learner is an individual , thus every learner can excel”

Our gigantic amour for success has been haw well we have utilised and preoccupied the minds of our learners.  among all factors of production at our disposal, we have utilised the factor of time proficiently. when people are thinking of bed time , we are thinking of how best we nurture and condition our learners to be the best of their generation for today and the future.

We are thus justifiably proud of all of these achievements as all of the results demonstrate that the school continues to be recognised as one of the highest achieving schools in the greater Gauteng province and I salute not only the learners but also their parents and teachers.

What defines a School is the quality of relationships and the range of academic and extracurricular successes.  What I outline here today confirms that there are effective relationships between learners, teachers and parents in Jeppe Education Centre.

I once again thank everyone present today for the part they have played in the success of our young people.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the education system in South Africa is in the midst of a period of rapid changes and that the difficult financial environments in which schools have to work is in many ways characterised by unpredictability.  However, be assured whatever the course of education, Jeppe Education will continue to provide quality education for our learners ensuring that they become confident young adults who are lifelong learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and capabilities to take their place as leaders of our society and economy.

It is my pleasure to share with you some of the many highlights of our 2022 school year.

We started in January 2022 with an outstanding Action plan which we called the SCHOOL PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PLAN. Not content with our past achievements, we quickly acted upon, and went beyond, took all recommendations made to ensure that we change the fortunes around not only for our learners, the school but the nation at large.

Roadmap: Our language policy, hence we teach all the 11 official languages in SA, stretching our contact time with learners, outsourcing excelling teachers to partake in extra classes, ensuring that each child has a text book in their fundamentals, the renowned evening school program, sourcing of school accommodation for our MATRICS and any other strategies which our parents can clearly relate with.

As a school, we are committed to delivering the highest possible standards of education to your children. We continue to deliver excellence to the children who come here, allowing them to flourish and grow into confident, well-rounded, and high-achieving individuals who can realise their personal best; prepared for the next stage of their education., hence I can report that we are one of the biggest feeders of traditional universities like WITS AND UJ.

I’m often asked by prospective parents “Why should I bring my child to Jeppe?” It’s a good question – there’s lots of choices out there in the world of private schools. The best answer I can give them is to come and see for themselves! Showing Jeppe Education Centre at work is something I take great pride in, inspiring teaching, well-behaved and inquisitive children, excellent interventions to mention but a few. Simply put @we are the best private low-cost school in the province if not SA.

Why emphasize parental involvement:  The success of a school is built on many things, but I believe at Jeppe, liaison with parents is key. It fosters the relationships between parents and teachers, between teachers and learners and between the parents and the school.  This makes our school so successful. My mission as principal, is to create and sustain a school where the parents are a very key stakeholder and active participants.

We really do listen to your views and act upon them. We believe that together we are a stronger school.

Thus: allow me to highlight focus areas where we need strong involvement:

Regular attendance

Resources

Communication:

Responsible citizenry. Parents should mentor their children into responsible citizens, thus

  • Rights come with responsibility
  • Respect at all levels

Discipline: monitor any minute changes you may see in your child for these might be pointers to behavioral change tantamount to ill behavior.

Parental involvement in academics:

Active learning
